| Words to Practice this summer |
The following words and their definitions are very important to your child's education. You might like to practice them during the summer months to be sure your child knows their meanings and can apply them to different situations. We appreciate your help with these important vocabulary words!
High Frequency Words for All Content Areas |
Compare – How two or more things are the same.
Contrast – How two or more things are different.
Define – To tell the meaning.
Determine – To find out.
Develop – To take what you know and make it grow.
Diagram – Using a picture, table, or chart to explain something.
Discuss – To talk about something (It’s time to discuss…talk about it, don’t fuss).
Estimate – When you make a guess based on fact (Estimate, and you’re right on track, when you make a guess based on fact).
Explain – To tell what you understand.
Explore - To look into.
Find – To look into.
Identify – To show or prove.
Investigate – To seek out or find answers to a question/problem.
Locate – To find a given object.
Match – To find objects that are alike in some way.
Measure – To find the size or amount of anything.
Organize – To put in a working order.
Select – To make smart choices.
Solve – To find the answer to a problem.
Summarize – To tell the beginning, middle, and end of something.
Think – Thoughts; to imagine your ideas, make pictures in your head, notice what is around you, and use prior knowledge.
